How to get the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Book your New Bern rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking the bestrental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Dark and Stormy, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a particular New Bern attraction you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
