Tricks and tips to get the very best New Bern rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. To find the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the best rental home in Emerald Isle:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Classic Ocean Front 4BR Duplex - near Bogue Inlet Pier! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
