Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- To find the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing your prefect New Bern rental:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Carolina Conch House, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
