Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Still Waters, Soundfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
