Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Seabiscuit-Oceanfront Home with Private Pool has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
