Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking your New Bern rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Perkins Cottage- Ocean Front, Pet Friendly Home has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
