Tricks and tips to get the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your New Bern rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. SINGLE Family Ocean Front - Howard's Hideaway has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's an individual New Bern beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
