Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the perfect rental in Emerald Isle:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautiful 5 BR Soundfront home featuring Boat Slip, Saline Pool, Fire Pit, Hot T has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
