Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern vacation property experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Rx Pad, Soundfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
