Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the best New Bern vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. OCEANFRONT Cottage with Covered Deck, Pet Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific New Bern beach you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
