Rental booking tips:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Check out this Gem at The Point!\nSummer Weekends Available has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
