Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront listing highly rated! Linda's Lanai West has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
