Getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Start by having your family choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. White Ibis Retreat - New Rental! Pet Friendly 2 bedroom has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
