Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Atlantic Beach. To get the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sward Shack - Beautiful waterview has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Call the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
