Getting the best New Bern vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:

- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
