Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing the best rental home in the New Bern area:

  • First, have your group decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Summer Winds 237, Oceanfront Condo in Indian Beach, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. message the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
