Tricks and tips for getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking your New Bern rental:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Pet friendly cottage steps from the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
