Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Spacious 3 BR, Pet Friendly Ocean side home in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you simply love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
