Tips to get the best Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your New Bern rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Decks Ahoy, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
