Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and picking the rightrental home:
- First, have your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Pier Pointe 2A3, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
