Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Cute cottage within walking distance to historic downtown Beaufort, NC. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
