Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in New Bern. To find the best value, shift your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking your New Bern rental home:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sunshine Manor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
