Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. Book your New Bern rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Amazing 3 BR House \/ Downtown New Bern \/ Sleeps 8 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
