Getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:
When to reserve a New Bern rental home & When to go:
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
