Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Reserve your New Bern vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Sutton Cottage-Ocean Front Home has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
