Tips and Tricks to get the very best New Bern vacation property experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Condo Hot Tub Indoor/Outdoor Pool and PuttPutt has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
