Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your New Bern vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking your New Bern rental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. My Shell A- Beach views\n\n has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
