Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC-Anchors Away Unit 3 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
