Strategies for getting the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sound & Seadogs Great Stay Middle Row! EI Bungalow 1 Min. Walk to Beach & Sound! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
