Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Top Floor; Top Shelf! Views of Sound & Sea! Fully renovated luxe condo! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
