Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to your budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect rental:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Ocean-front residence with unparalleled views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
