Vacation rental booking tips:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Ocean and Sound Views! Beach Access less than 1000 feet away! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a specific New Bern destination you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
