How to find the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 5 minute walk to ocean has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular New Bern attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
