Getting the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 4 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
