How to book the best vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
