Tricks and tips to get the very best New Bern vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking your prefect New Bern vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Exclusive Dolphin Ridge 'Island Time' with private pool and golf cart has 3 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If there's an individual New Bern attraction you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
