Tips for getting the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. WELCOME TO PARADISE!! Beautiful oceanfront 3 BR Townhome with amazing views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
