Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Condo right on the Golf Course! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
