Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Condo right on the Golf Course! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
