Getting the best New Bern rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious 1BR 1BA with Full Kitchen and Living Room - 3 min walk to the beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
