Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Beaufort. To get the best rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Why Knot Getaway…Rooftop with WaterView! Unit F has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
