Tips for getting the best rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Why Knot Getaway…Rooftop with WaterView! Unit F has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, call the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
