Getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your New Bern rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best rental in the New Bern area:
- Start by having your group decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Studio Cottage 214** has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
