New Bern rental home booking tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Sandpiper has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
