Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • To start, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Soundfront Complex, pool, steps from beach! Sept 8 & 29th weekend available! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
