Booking the best vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Updated two-story townhouse with furnished porch & washer/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
