Our top New Bern rental home tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sunny, welcoming home, close to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
