How to find the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • First, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Stunning oceanfront views just steps from the deck; steps, sand, waves! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
