Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern vacation home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Choosing and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Spacious sound view home. Perfect retreat for families to home school and relax has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • If there's a particular New Bern attraction you simply love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
