Our top New Bern vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to go & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Near Oceanfront Condo at Tar Landing Villas - Adjacent to Ft Macon State Park has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
