Our top Vacation rental tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Direct Ocean Front Luxury Unit with Expansive Views has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, email the host before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
