Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Between Sound & Sea - Private Beachfront Parking Lot Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
